2025 Boston Half Marathon Race Report: Winners, Highlights & Dana-Farber Fundraising (2025)

Get ready for an exhilarating journey through the 2025 Boston Half Marathon! This race, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, brought together over 7,200 athletes in Boston's Franklin Park. It was a day of triumphs, personal records, and an incredible fundraising effort for Team Dana-Farber, with nearly $1 million raised!

The race saw an intense battle at the front, with Fentaye Belayneh from Ethiopia, Isaia Lasoi of Kenya, Yen Hoang from the USA, and Miguel Vergara, also from the USA, leading the pack. Belayneh made history by becoming the first woman since Joan Chelimo Melly to win back-to-back years, and her excitement was palpable: "I love Boston!" she exclaimed.

Searchable results and leaderboards are available online, so you can dive deeper into the race's details. Belayneh's victory was a thrilling sprint finish in Franklin Park, where she outpaced her friend and fellow countrywoman, Melknat Wudu, by just two seconds!

"Every time I come to Boston, it's special," Belayneh shared. "The training grounds here hold a special place in my heart, and I draw strength from them."

The early miles saw a competitive group, including B.A.A. High Performance Team member Megan Hasz Sailor and former American record holder Keira D'Amato. As the race progressed, it was Belayneh's powerful kick in the final kilometers that secured her victory.

Beyond the open division, the wheelchair division also saw exciting action. Yen Hoang, who had finished second in the previous two years, finally claimed the title, using the course's challenging hills to her advantage. She described the passionate spectators as a boost: "The runners' cheers as I approached the finish were incredible!"

Miguel Vergara, meanwhile, returned to the winner's circle, adding a second Boston Half crown to his 2019 victory.

The race brought together athletes from 98 countries and 44 states, running along an updated course that showcased the beauty of the Emerald Necklace Park System.

But here's where it gets controversial... The race also featured Para Athletics Division champions, with athletes competing in various impairment categories. Some might argue that these divisions should be more widely recognized and celebrated, as they showcase the incredible resilience and talent of athletes with disabilities. What are your thoughts on this?

And this is the part most people miss... The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund's team raised an incredible amount for cancer research and patient support. Their collective efforts have raised over $12 million since 2003, making a significant impact on the lives of cancer patients worldwide.

The Boston Half Marathon was a family-friendly event, offering free youth races and a chance for spectators of all ages to enjoy the atmosphere. It's a true celebration of sports, health, and community.

So, what did you think of this year's Boston Half Marathon? Were you inspired by the athletes' performances? Do you think more attention should be given to the Para Athletics Division? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
