Kilauea's Eruption: A Record-Breaking Spectacle

Residents in the Kaʻu region, particularly along the southern and southwestern parts of Mauna Loa, may have encountered fine ash and Pele's hair, a distinctive volcanic glass fiber.
Despite the awe-inspiring nature of the event, scientists cautioned that it might be a fleeting spectacle. The rapid tilt drop and high output from both vents suggest that the episode could last less than six to eight hours, a relatively short window for such an extraordinary display.
