Asante Samuel Jr. first joined Pittsburgh’s practice squad on November 12 and was later elevated to the game-day roster for the clash with the Bills. He was a second-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2021 and spent four seasons there, starting 47 of 50 appearances. An injury-plagued 2024 limited him to just four games. Over four years with the Chargers, Samuel accumulated six interceptions, 37 passes defensed, and one fumble recovery. At Florida State, he played 32 college games, posting 96 tackles (71 solo), 33 passes defended, four interceptions, three tackles for a loss, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.
Adam Thielen, a 12-year NFL veteran, adds considerable experience to Pittsburgh. He has appeared in 173 NFL games, starting 133, with 693 receptions for 8,380 yards (a 12.1-yard average) and 64 touchdowns. Thielen entered the league as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Vikings in 2013, spending his first season on the practice squad. He spent nine seasons with Minnesota, followed by two seasons with Carolina, and then returned to Minnesota in 2025 via a trade. This season, he has played 11 games with five starts, recording eight receptions for 69 yards and no touchdowns. Thielen has publicly indicated this could be his final NFL season, seeking more playing time.
Darius Slay, who signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh this offseason, has appeared in 10 games this year, starting nine, but sat as inactive for Week 13 against Buffalo. He has totaled 38 tackles (28 solo), three passes defensed, and one tackle for a loss. Slay was a second-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2013 (36th overall) and spent seven seasons with Detroit before joining Philadelphia for five seasons after a 2020 trade. He earned First-Team All-Pro honors in 2017 and made six Pro Bowls (2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024) and played a starting role for the Eagles during their Super Bowl LIII championship run.
