Toprak Razgatlioglu's Exciting MotoGP Test with Yamaha: What to Expect! (2025)

Toprak Razgatlioglu's MotoGP Journey: A Head Start at Aragon

Are you ready for some high-octane action? Yamaha is giving its new MotoGP recruit, Toprak Razgatlioglu, a significant advantage. He's getting an early taste of MotoGP life with a private test at Aragon, setting the stage for his official debut.

Razgatlioglu, the reigning World Superbike champion, is making the leap to MotoGP with Yamaha on a multi-year deal. He'll be racing for the satellite team Pramac. This isn't his first dance with the Yamaha M1 MotoGP bike, but things are different this time.

He's had a previous test on the M1 bike while he was part of the World Superbike roster. But neither the rider nor the manufacturer was particularly thrilled with how those tests went. This time, however, it's all about preparation. BMW, his current employer, is even letting him out of his contract to get some early track time.

Razgatlioglu will join the MotoGP field at Valencia on November 18th, right after the season finale. But before that, he'll get a sneak peek at Aragon, as part of a test Yamaha already had planned for its new V4 prototype.

Yamaha MotoGP boss Paolo Pavesio explains that the Aragon test is primarily for development. However, they're seizing the opportunity for Razgatlioglu to get a feel for the bike. He'll get to check everything out and hopefully reduce any stress before the Valencia test.

But here's where it gets controversial... Pavesio clarified that the main focus of the test will be Augusto Fernandez, who will continue to put the V4 bike through its paces. Razgatlioglu will get some track time, too, but it won't be a full-blown test.

Razgatlioglu previously tested the inline-four M1, but this time, like Fernandez, he'll be riding the V4 prototype. While Yamaha hasn't officially committed to ditching the inline-four for the V4 next season, it seems highly likely. The choice of bike for Razgatlioglu's test further confirms this.

"Obviously [switching to the V4] is the target," Pavesio stated. "So if we achieve the target, honestly speaking there is no point to create confusion [by giving Razgatlioglu the inline-four to test]." He added that Razgatlioglu already has a lot to learn: new brakes, tires, bike, systems, and buttons.

And this is the part most people miss... Pavesio believes that comparing the current M1 with the work-in-progress prototype wouldn't be constructive for Razgatlioglu. It would be too much to handle with all the changes.

What do you think about Yamaha's strategy? Do you agree with their approach to Razgatlioglu's preparation? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
